AP Biology





This course is a highly challenging two-semester laboratory and lecture course equivalent to a full year college biology course. It is specifically designed to follow the Advanced Placement curriculum. This curriculum will greatly enhance students’ confidence and academic interest in the areas of: chemistry of life, cell structure and function, cellular energetics, cell communication & cell cycle, heredity, gene expression & regulation, natural selection, and ecology. Emphasis will be placed on the concepts and themes of biology. Students who complete this course have the option of taking the AP Biology Examination and receiving college credit for their work. This course is recommended for 10th, 11th, and 12th grade students only.  The suggested pre-requisite is academic or honors biology (preferably honors) to be taken in the 9th grade year.  If a student is in 10th grade, it is recommended that they are taking academic or honors chemistry (preferably honors) concurrently.
